RJ McFarlane is a Creative Director at Small Ax. After graduating from Boston College, RJ moved to New York and began his career as a writer. Coming from a rich theater background, he quickly developed interest in the business of Broadway and formed a company with a colleague to produce theater in the city. The company saw many successes, producing theater both on and off Broadway, including the Tony-nominated Martin McDonagh’s “Lieutenant of Inishmore.”
Presented with an opportunity to help produce a feature film in Los Angeles, RJ quickly fell in love with the art of storytelling through film. He produced and directed many short films and commercials and soon found success in the world of crowd sourced advertising. These successes led to a role as Executive Producer at Poptent Productions, where he was able to create commercial content on a national stage for major brands such as Disney, Georgia Pacific, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Brown Forman, and Procter & Gamble.
As Creative Director at Small Ax, RJ continues to do what he loves in producing video content with what he believes to be the most talented and creative team in the industry. He lives in Los Angeles with his strangely human-like dog, Charlie.
