We’re dropping in for a quick brag. Small Ax Creative has been honored–not once, not twice, but thrice!–in the 42nd Annual Telly Awards.

The Gold: Hope Builders: 25 Days Building Hope

We’re proud of this one. We took home the Gold in the category of Non-Broadcast General – Fundraising for our work on the Hope Builders project.

In case you’re not familiar yet, Taller San Jose Hope Builders is a nonprofit based in Orange County that empowers impoverished young adults with the education, mentorship, life skills and job training they need to succeed in the workforce. Prior to the pandemic, Hope Builders raised the majority of their operating budget from a yearly gala event. As this was not possible last year, we helped them to create an online event, comprised of 28 videos. A new video was released each day to tell their story. We shot certain live action components with a minimal, socially distanced and COVID risk compliant crew, and utilized interviews and b-roll, combining different production ideologies to tell their story. Hope Builders ended up raising more than ever using this online methodology.

The Bronze: King COVID

We’re proud of this one, too. We took home the Bronze in the category of Non-broadcast General – Social Responsibility for our work on the project King COVID: Public Responsibility PSA.

Here at Small Ax Creative, we’ve always taken a portion of our time and talents each year and put them toward a nonprofit cause, in an initiative we call Small Ax of Kindness. This year, we saw that conflicting, misguided information being posted on the web was leaving people confused about how to best address the pandemic and manage the spread of COVID-19. We put together a limited series with a fun and entertaining approach to educating the masses as to how to best limit exposure to COVID-19 and how to help viewers do their part in preventing the spread of the virus. Utilizing CDC guidelines, we came up with an approach through an animated character called King COVID, who clearly communicated simple information in a humorous way to help people stay safe.

The Bronze 2.0: PIR .ORG Impact Awards

You guessed it: we’re also proud of this one. This year, we also took home the Bronze in the category of Non-Broadcast Craft – Use of Stock Footage for our work in helping PIR pivot from an in-person event to a virtual awards show. Small Ax Creative was engaged to put together videos for the live online event. We produced 97 pieces of content and created 77 videos for the event, utilizing footage from the different organizations as well as specialized stock footage and animated graphics. Our talented editing staff were able to put together the many videos which created a successful event online.

The Pride

We would be remiss not to emphasize the social impact that is present in each project. Whether it was working with nonprofits or educating the public, we are, above all, extremely honored to be recognized in these categories that focus on social impact. Each of these causes is near and dear to our hearts, and we encourage you to check out the organizations if you’re not already familiar. It’s always an honor to collaborate with organizations doing such amazing, necessary, meaningful work.

And…The Love

As always, thank YOU for your involvement and interest in Small Ax Creative. We appreciate the opportunity to make you proud.
